For this limited edition, Zak meticulously constructed 10 unique stained-glass boxes utilizing shards of colored and textured glass. Each box functions as both a unique book object/sculpture and a holder a cased-in book. Proxy Traverse features Suzanna Zak’s photographs from over a decade of wandering “through foothills, valleys, basins, granite summit blocks, watersheds, and everything in between,” primarily around Payahuunadü, the “land of flowing water” in the Owens Valley and Eastern Sierra region of California. The book also includes photographs of several of Zak’s stained-glass wall works.
20% of all book sales will be donated equally to Indigenous Women Hike (@indigenouswomenhike), a collective of Indigenous women reconnecting with our ancestral homelands, and Repair Together (@repair.together), a Ukrainian volunteer initiative to restore communities in temporarily occupied territories.
